Is cabin baggage the new golden goose for low-cost carriers? After Ryanair, it's Wizz Air's turn to change its baggage policy. From November 1, Wizz Air passengers will be entitled to take one piece of cabin baggage weighing no more than 10 kg and no larger than 40 x 30 x 20 cm into the hold, free of charge, compared with 55 x 40 x 23 cm today.
The reduction in the maximum size is not insignificant, as it excludes standard-size wheeled cabin baggage from the free baggage allowance. To take a 55 x 40 x 23 cm wheeled cabin baggage item, passengers will need to purchase the WIZZ Priority option, charged online from €5 to €12 depending on the flight. In addition to the existing 20 kg and 32 kg baggage allowances, Wizz Air is now introducing a new allowance enabling passengers to check in baggage weighing up to 10 kg. Price: €7.
"Customer-focused baggage policy
Like Ryanair, Wizz Air is presenting these new features as a major step forward for consumers and a new way of enjoying life. "customer-focused baggage policy. "This transparent baggage policy aims to facilitate passenger boarding and ensure that all passengers will be able to take a free carry-on bag on board all of the airline's aircraft."declares the low-cost company, without batting an eyelid.
And Wizz Air goes even further, assuring us that "According to company records, the figures show that more than 10,000 flights a year are delayed because of baggage.. That's all there is to it! But make no mistake about it, the low-cost carriers have above all found a way to regain control and find a new source of revenue, just as passengers had begun to adapt to the low-cost system and make the most of the free fares still available.
Incidentally, Wizz Air is finally dismantling its own way of thinking: "The figures show that, over the last 5 years, the average length of stay has fallen continuously and that, now, a third of Wizz Air passengers book a trip of 3 days or less".explains the company. "As a result, passengers travel light, and a third of them buy the hold baggage option".. The service "new and transparent was an excellent way of taxing the remaining two-thirds who managed to fly without paying anything extra for their baggage. The marketing kings did the rest!
